Posting will begin February 11. Also new this year is an Inception Reverse Bang Collection on Ao3. Instructions on how to post to the Ao3 collection at the bottom of this entry.

If an Artist has two Authors writing for a particular art piece, the Artist must make the Master Post to [community profile] i_reversebang. If there is only one Author writing for a piece, the Artist and Author may decide amongst themselves who should make the Master Post.

When it is your posting date, you may post your story and art to your LJs/Dreamwidths/AO3 accounts. You will then link to the story and art in the masterpost to [community profile] i_reversebang using following format:

For Example:
Art Prompt Title: Two Dudes and a Window
Art link: Art Master Post
Artist: [personal profile] keelain

First Claim
Fic Title: Two Dudes
Author: [personal profile] bauble
Pairing(s): Gen
Rating: G
Word Count: 20
Warnings: None.

Summary: Why are these guys still standing in front of a window? Will the riddle ever be solved?

Second Claim
Fic Title: I saw the sun
Author: [profile] chibi_lurrel
Pairing(s): Dude/Dude
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 3000
Warnings: None.

Summary: Two guys see the sun through the window and then decide to have sex in front of it. Fun is had.

Please keep Author/Artist notes, disclaimers, and other things to the actual fic/art posts. This will help prevent Master Posts in this community from getting too lengthy or cluttered. Every Master Post made to [community profile] i_reversebang will be put in the moderation queue and reviewed before being allowed through. We (the mods) will not be able to read every fic that is posted.

Warnings: Please be conscientious about using appropriate warnings, which you may put under spoiler text. If you have questions about proper warnings to put on a fic, you may send an email to ireversebang @ gmail to discuss the issue.

Banners are allowed in the Master Post so long as they are work-safe and no larger than 400px in width and 350px in height.

Ao3 Inception Reverse Bang Collection: Here are instructions for how to include your story in the collection
1. Go to this URL: https://archiveofourown.org/collections/Inception_Reverse_Bang
2. Click on the button at the top right that says, "Post to Collection"
3. Fill out the fields. You can include a link to the artwork/fic.

Now that everyone has their claims, here is a list of suggestions for the rest of the challenge.

Purpose: This challenge is centered around the of collaboration between artists and authors to produce art and fic. Unlike traditional Big Bangs, however, the challenge focuses on the art first.

Every artist/author team dynamic will be different, just as they are in normal Big Bangs. Some teams will be more intense, with communication almost daily to create together. Other teams will be more casual, with only the occasional email as both parties work separately and come together at the end for a master post. There is no right or wrong way to handle this challenge, and we leave it to each artist/author team to figure out what works for them.

The only requirement we have is that both parties be civil and respectful towards each other during the process. This includes not making any public posts or comments expressing disappointment over the Art an Author claimed, or the Author(s) an Artist was claimed by. Please bear in mind the feelings of people who may read those posts and comments.

If there are problems between you and your artist/author, please try your best to work it out. If, however, they are being unresponsive or extremely uncooperative, you may send an email to the ireversebang gmail and we will do our best to help resolve the issue.

Guidelines: These are not all rules, per se, but guidelines we strongly suggest both artists and authors follow in order to allow this challenge to be as fun and positive an experience as possible for all parties involved.

For the Artists:
  • It is up to you how closely you wish the author to follow your vision for the art in their story. If you have a very specific vision that is fine, but bear in mind that most writers must be given at least a little room in order to produce their best work.
  • The only obligation that an Artist has is to finish the piece(s) of art that they submitted to the challenge. You may create more art for any/all of your prompts, but this optional. Please discuss your plans with your author and consider sending them drafts/completed pieces as you go.
  • No Author should pressure their Artist to create more art.
  • We leave it up to every artist/author team to decide who will post the master post to [community profile] i_reversebang. If, however, an an Artist has a piece with two stories attached (two writers claimed it), then the stories should both be linked in the master post for that piece. Therefore, for the sake of convenience, the Artist should make the master post to the community.

For the Writers:
  • Be polite, respectful, and enthusiastic when working with your artist. They put work into this challenge, and they deserve your best efforts in return.
  • Discuss with your artist your plans for the story. You are not bound by what they say they want in the story, but try to take their thoughts and comments into account as you write.
  • Artists are free to create as much art as they want for their prompts. Therefore, there is the potential for them to create art that is directly related to the story you write; for this to happen, be sure to stay in contact with your artist and keep them apprised of updates in the story. But bear in mind that this is purely at the Artist's discretion, and at no point should an Author pressure their Artist for anything.
  • Once again, the minimum wordcount is 3,000 words, and stories must be beta-read.

How Art Claims will work:
The art pieces will be going up in a members-locked post with comments turned off on Saturday, October 14 around 10-11AM EST so everyone can get a chance to look through the art before the claiming begins. Prompts will be numbered, without the artist's name attached. Each prompt will include a thumbnail (which links to the full-size version), a short description, preferred pairings (if there are any) and ratings. Here is an example:

101.
Rating: G for art, fic can be higher
Pairing(s): Gen or dude/dude
Description: Two dudes in front of a bright window, being mysterious.

Claims Begin:
After 24 hours comments will be turned on and claiming will begin on Sunday, October 15 at 11AM EST. When the Claims Post opens, authors will comment with their top 3 art choices. Mods will reply and inform the author of which piece they get, and the piece will be struck out in the claims post.

In the first round of claims authors will only be allowed to claim one piece of art. Claims will be first come first serve, and the prompts will be crossed out as they are claimed. If there are unclaimed pieces at the end of two days, there will be a second round of claims, wherein authors may claim a second piece to write for.

We cannot guarantee that anyone will get their first, second, or even third choice. Some pieces may be very popular, and it is natural to feel some disappointment if you don't get to write for something that really inspires you. However, please bear in mind the feelings of artists who will be reading the comments to the Claims Post as well; making comments along the lines of "I don't want to write for any of this" or "there's nothing good left" will not make any of the artists feel good. If you've ever participated as a writer in a Big Bang challenge, I'm sure you can understand the anxiety that comes from having your work in a line up with other pieces.

Proxies: If an author cannot comment when they claims post first opens, they may preview the claims in the 24 hour window beforehand and submit their choices to a proxy who will post in their stead. If a proxy is making a claim for themself as well, they must leave two separate comments, one stating their top 3 choices and one stating the top 3 choices of their friend.

Here is what the claims comment format will look like:
LJ Username:
Email:
Choice #1:
Choice #2:
Choice #3:

Multiple claims: Two or more authors claiming the same piece to write a story for will not be allowed until every single piece has been claimed. Only if every single piece has been claimed will we consider opening the pieces up to second claims. Artists may opt their piece(s) out of being claimed by a second author if they wish.

After a piece has been claimed:
Artists are free to contact their author as soon as they see that their piece has been claimed. We will be posting a Author/Artist Matchup Reveals post and as well as sending email notifications to authors and artists, but that will take time for us to do so we strongly recommend that artists proactively contact their authors ASAP.

If you have any questions about the Claim Process, please comment to this post.

Here are the guidelines for submitting your art drafts for claims in [livejournal.com profile] i_reversebang.
  • Art pieces may be finished or works in progress.
  • They are due by Sunday, October 8, but you may send them in before then if you are ready.
  • Submissions should be sent to ireversebang@gmail.com with the subject: Art Submission. Attach the file(s) to the email.
  • You can submit up to two art pieces. These pieces should not be linked, as each piece could be chosen by different authors.
  • If you are doing a comic style piece with panels, it must be one image file which will then count as one piece.
  • There is no maximum size for art, though each art prompt must be at least 400 by 600 pixels. If it is a vid it must be at least 1 minute in length. You may also submit an audio file following the rules set out here.

  • We will be requiring the following naming convention: artistname_piece#. For example bauble_piece1.jpg. This will allow us to keep things organized and to ensure no duplicate file names.
  • Art will be posted for claims anonymously, so please do not publicly post your art anywhere beforehand.

For each image you need to fill out the following information:
Livejournal Name:

This is the post for people who would like to create art for the Inception Reverse Bang.

Artists should submit one or two pieces of art by Sunday, October 8. This art may be a work in progress, a draft, or a finished product. This art will be posted anonymously, along with a a sentence or two about your preferred pairings (if any). Authors will then claim art to write for, similar to the way artists claim authors' summaries in regular Big Bang challenges.

Authors will write a story of at least 3000 words inspired by the art.

Drawings, paintings, digital manips, and fanvids are all allowed as submissions. Art must be at least 400px by 600px, or at least 1 minute in length if you are submitting a fanvid.

It is encouraged that artists have their work reviewed by an art beta. You may refer to our beta sign-up post to contact people who have volunteered to help out, or use your own betas (we will not be assigning betas).

Due to the way art claims are set up, it would be difficult to ensure that an author would be familiar with an additional source of canon.

To sign up, simply fill out the form here.
If, due to privacy concerns relating to Google, you'd prefer not to sign up through the Google form, you may comment to this entry listing your LJ username and email address.

List of Participants: katythereader, ettoby, kaminagi, sagemb_amy, geekbynight, marourin, kateison, nesel, ko_no_yo, swtalmnd, somedrunkpirate

Generally: This is a reverse of the usual Big Bang challenge. An artist creates one or two pieces of art, which are posted anonymously and claimed by an author. Authors are then expected to write a short fic (minimum of 3,000 words) based on the art they chose.

Overview: Artists can submit one or two pieces of art by Sunday, October 8. This may feature any pairing (or no pairing) so long as it includes at least one character from Inception. The art will be posted anonymously, at which point authors can claim a piece. Authors will write a fic (minimum of 3,000 words) based on the art they chose.

Schedule:
Sunday, October 1: Artist Sign Ups close

Sunday, October 8: Artists’ works are due
Sunday, October 15: Art Claims

Sunday, October 22: The Big Reveal of Artist/Author Matchups

Friday, November 17: Author Check in
Friday, December 29: Author Check in
Sunday, January 28: Stories due
Sunday, February 4: Posting Schedule goes up

Sunday, February 11: Posting begins

Rules for Artists:
  • You should create at least one new piece of art: a drawing, painting, digital manip, fanvid or other (email the mods if you have any questions). Art must be at least 400 by 600 pixels in size, videos must be at least one minute in length. You must submit this piece by Sunday, Oct 8, and it may may be a work in progress, a draft, or a finished product. You may submit up to two pieces for this challenge.

  • You may not submit art for this challenge that has already been posted elsewhere.

  • This challenge is open to all pairings and genres, so long as it includes at least one character from Inception. Artists may choose to specify what pairings (if any) they envision in the story, as well as submit a short text description of their piece (optional).

  • We will have a post for Art Beta volunteers for artists to contact directly, but having your artwork looked over by a Beta is not required.

Rules for the Authors:
  • Authors must write a fic with a minimum of 3,000 words, based on the art you choose in the Art Claims post. Claims will be first come, first serve. Your fic must be related to the art for which it is written, and it cannot have been already posted elsewhere.

  • The fics must be beta read, and we will have a post for Fic Beta volunteers available for authors to contact directly.

Art Submission Guidelines:
Art submissions should be sent to the community mod email account ireversebang at gmail dot com) by Sunday, Oct 8. Artists may submit up to two pieces of art for claiming in this challenge. There are no maximum size or dimensions for art, though each art piece must be at least 400 by 600 pixels. If it is a vid it must be at least 1 minute in length. Art that is submitted should not be posted publicly before claims take place.

Art submissions may be works in progress, drafts, or finished products. More details on the art submission process will be posted to the community, so please be sure to join and watch the community for updates.

The Claims Process:
Art claims will officially begin on Saturday, Oct 15, though the post will be up 24 hours beforehand so that writers may take a look at all the art before actual claiming starts. The claims post will contain thumbnail previews that link to the full size version of the art and will be accompanied by an optional text description of the subject. All art will be posted anonymously, and claims will be first come, first serve.

The Claims Post(s) will be members-locked, so please be sure to join and watch the community in order to participate. I'd also recommend setting up tracking by clicking on the 'Pin' icon in the lj toolbar to have email notifications sent to you every time there's a new post in the community. You can also follow @ireversebang on Twitter & i-reversebang on Tumblr for updates and reminders.

We have received 28 art submissions in total! There's still time for authors to sign up & claim a piece of art. Be sure to join the LJ community in order to see the claims post.

Here is a breakdown of the art we have received so far by various categories:
6 Arthur/Ariadne
18 Slash Arthur/Eames
2 Gen
2 non Ariadne/Arthur & non Arthur/Eames pieces
7 Not Safe For Work
21 Safe for work

Please note that in the Claims Post, pieces will all be grouped by the first pairing listed. Everyone should be sure to read the Suggested Pairings field carefully, as many art pieces feature several possible pairings. Also, pieces in the Gen category may have suggested pairings as well (ie, Pairing: Gen, or Arthur/Eames).

Not Safe for Work Claims will be towards the bottom of the post below a divider.

Several Reminders:
  • Multiple authors claiming a single art piece to write for will not be allowed until every single piece is claimed at least once. If that happens, then we will open the pieces up to a second author claiming them. Artists may opt-out of having their pieces claimed a second time by commenting here or emailing the mod account at: ireversebang at gmail.
  • If you wish to participate in claims, you must join and watch the community. If you are using a proxy, be sure to have them join and watch the community as well.

For your convenience, here is a reminder of the schedule:

Here are the guidelines for submitting your art drafts for claims in [livejournal.com profile] i_reversebang.
  • Art pieces may be finished or works in progress.
  • They are due by Sunday, July 10, but you may send them in before then if you are ready.
  • There is no need to submit a thumbnail version.
  • Images can be sent in the following formats: GIF, JPG, PNG, and TIFF.
  • Music or other non-visual art will be accepted as long as you can explain what it is in the description for authors.
  • Vids can be sent in the following formats: 3GP, ASF, AVI, MOV, MPEG, MPG, RM, RV, and WMV. Alternatively, you may upload it to Youtube and send us the link. If you're sending in a YT link, please make sure there's no identifying information about you the artist in the vid or on the page

Email:
Piece #:
Rating:
Suggested Pairing(s):
(indicate here if you want gen, have pairing preferences or don’t care either way)
Description: (optional)

Please copy and paste the above text into your email to make sure you don't forget anything.

Here is an example of what the body of the email should contain if you have 2 pieces to submit:

Livejournal Name: bauble
Email: ireversebang@gmail.com
Piece #: 1
Rating: G for art, fic can higher
Pairing(s): Gen or Ariadne/Mal
Description: N/A

Livejournal Name: bauble
Email: ireversebang@gmail.com
Piece #: 2
Rating: NC-17
Pairing(s): Arthur/Eames, Arthur/Cobb, or Arthur/Cobb/Eames
Description: Arthur, Cobb, and Eames all working together in the warehouse while naked.

If you have any questions re: submissions, please comment to this entry.

This is the post for people who would like to create art for the Inception Reverse Bang.

Artists should submit one or two pieces of art by Sunday, July 10.

Authors will be expected to write a fic with a minimum of 3,000 words, based on the art you choose in the Art Claims post. Claims will be first come, first serve.

Fics must be beta read. You may refer to our beta sign-up post to contact people who have volunteered to help out, or use your own betas (we will not be assigning betas in this challenge). [livejournal.com profile] inception_beta is another great resource for finding a beta.

Additional note: Due to the way art claims are set up, it would be difficult to ensure that an author would be familiar with an additional source of canon.

Generally: This is a reverse of the usual Big Bang challenge. An artist creates one or two pieces of art, which are posted anonymously and claimed by an author. Authors are then expected to write a short fic (minimum of 3,000 words) based on the art they chose.

Overview: Artists can submit one or two pieces of art by Sunday, July 10. This may feature any pairing (or no pairing) so long as it includes at least one character from Inception. The art will be posted anonymously, at which point authors can claim a piece. Authors will write a fic (minimum of 3,000 words) based on the art they chose.

Schedule:
Friday, May 20: Artist and Author sign-ups open
Sunday, July 3: Artist Sign Ups close

Sunday, July 10: Artists’ works are due
Sunday, July 17: Art Claims
Sunday, July 24: The Big Reveal of Artist/Author Matchups

Friday, August 26: Author Check in
Friday, September 30: Author Check in
Sunday, October 23: Stories due
Sunday, October 30: Posting Schedule goes up

Sunday, November 6: Posting begins

Rules for Artists:
  • You should create at least one new piece of art: a drawing, painting, digital manip, fanvid or other (email the mods if you have any questions). Art must be at least 400 by 600 pixels in size, videos must be at least one minute in length. You must submit this piece by Sunday, July 10, and it may may be a work in progress, a draft, or a finished product.

Art submissions should be sent to the community mod email account ireversebang at gmail dot com) by Sunday, July 10.

Art claims will officially begin on Saturday, July 17, though the post will be up 24 hours beforehand so that writers may take a look at all the art before actual claiming starts.

If you have any questions, please comment here.

Posting will begin October 1st.

If an Artist has two Authors writing for a particular art piece, the Artist must make the Master Post to [livejournal.com profile] i_reversebang. If there is only one Author writing for a piece, the Artist and Author may decide amongst themselves who should make the Master Post.

When it is your posting date, you may post your story and art to your LJs/Dreamwidths/AO3 accounts. You will then link to the story and art in the masterpost to [livejournal.com profile] i_reversebang using following format:

For Example:
Art Prompt Title: Two Dudes and a Window
Art link: Art Master Post
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] keelain

First Claim
Fic Title: Two Dudes
Author: [livejournal.com profile] bauble
Pairing(s): Gen
Rating: G
Word Count: 20
Warnings: None.

Summary: Why are these guys still standing in front of a window? Will the riddle ever be solved?

Second Claim
Fic Title: I saw the sun

Pairing(s): Dude/Dude
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 3000
Warnings: None.

Please keep Author/Artist notes, disclaimers, and other things to the actual fic/art posts. This will help prevent Master Posts in this community from getting too lengthy or cluttered. Every Master Post made to [livejournal.com profile] i_reversebang will be put in the moderation queue and reviewed before being allowed through.
