Rules & How this all works

Generally: This is a reverse of the usual Big Bang challenge - each artist creates at least one piece of art, which is then posted anonymously and claimed by an author. Authors are then expected to write a short fic (minimum of 3,000 words) based on the art they chose.

Overview: Artist and Author sign-ups open Monday, January 7th. Artists must submit at least one piece of art (and no more than two) by Sunday, February 13th. This may feature any pairing (or no pairing) so long as it includes at least one character from Inception. For this challenge, crossovers are not allowed. The art will be posted anonymously, at which point authors can claim a piece. Authors will write a short fic (minimum of 3,000 words) based on the art they chose.

Schedule:
Monday, January 7th: Artist and Author sign-ups open
Friday, February 11th: Artist sign-ups close

Sunday, February 13th: Artists' works are due
Sunday, February 20th: Art claims
Sunday, February 27th: The Big Reveal of Artist/Author Matchups

Sunday, March 20th: Artist Check in
Sunday, March 27th: Author Check in
Sunday, April 3rd: Posting Schedule goes up

Sunday, April 10th: Posting begins

Rules for Artists:
  • You should create at least one new piece of art: a drawing, painting, digital manip, or fanvid. Art must be at least 400 by 600 pixels in size, videos must be at least one minute in length. You must submit this piece by Sunday, February 6th, and it may may be a work in progress, a draft, or a finished product. You may submit up to two pieces for this challenge.

  • You may not submit art for this challenge that has already been posted elsewhere.

  • This challenge is open to all pairings and genres, so long as it includes at least one character from Inception. Artists may choose to specify what pairings (if any) they envision in the story, as well as submit a short text description of their piece (optional).

  • We have a post for Art Beta volunteers for artists to contact directly, but having your artwork looked over by a Beta is not required.

  • Please sign up to participate as an artist here.

Rules for the Authors:
  • Authors must write a fic with a minimum of 3,000 words, based on the art you choose in the Art Claims post. Claims will be first come, first serve. Your fic must be related to the art for which it is written, and it cannot have been already posted elsewhere.

  • The fics must be beta read, and we have a post for Fic Beta volunteers available for authors to contact directly.

  • Please sign up to participate as an author here.

Volunteers to be Fic and Art Betas may sign up here.

Art Submission Guidelines:
Art submissions should be sent to the community mod email account by Sunday, February 13th. Artists may submit up to two pieces of art for claiming in this challenge. There is no maximum size or dimensions for art, though each art prompt must be at least 400 by 600 pixels in size. If it is a vid it must be at least 1 minute in length. Art submissions may be works in progress, drafts, or finished products. More details on the art submission process will be posted to the community, so please be sure to join and watch the community for updates.

The Claims Process:
Art claims will officially begin on Sunday, February 20th, though the post will be up 24 hours beforehand so that writers may take a look at all the art before actual claiming starts. The claims post will contain thumbnail previews of all the art (that link to the full size version of the art) accompanied by an optional text description of the subject. All art will be posted anonymously, and claims will be first come, first serve.

The Claims Post(s) will be members-locked, so please be sure to join and watch the community in order to participate.

Everyone who wishes to participate MUST join and watch the community, to make sure they do not miss important deadlines or updates to the challenge.

Most awesomest idea ever!

[identity profile] fishwrites.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
this is such a cool idea!

i am the "what about timezones?" person no matter what fandom, it seems...

[identity profile] renne.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
Hay. Hay hay haaaaay. Say I wanted to play... with the art claims, I know it's first come, first served, but what time of the day is this kind of thing going to be opened? Because it would be kind of rough to expect people to, say, get up in the middle of the night to make a claim or else when they get up in the morning/home from work it's a case of "whatever is left", you know?

[identity profile] theeverdream.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
Do the two pieces of art have to relate (i.e. will they be posted together for one claim)?

[identity profile] theeverdream.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
Awesomes. Thank you!
p.s. love your icon!

Having the art due two days after signups close it kind of balls for anyone who shows up late to the party. Even if WIPs are okay, that's a pretty harsh deadline and kind of unfair in a challenge that should be more about the artists. ymmv.

[identity profile] timbitsu.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the deadline seems a bit tight. And I'm not sure about other artists, but I don't normally like posting WIPs.

[identity profile] chibi-lurrel.livejournal.com 2011-01-11 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
Hopefully those who sign-up late and cannot complete a piece in time will be alright with posting a WIP, since they do have a longer stretch of time to finish after claims.

Also, we're open to doing a second round based on interest in this first go for anyone who misses out.

[identity profile] chibi-lurrel.livejournal.com 2011-01-11 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Hopefully late-comers won't mind posting WIPs, since they'll have a longer stretch to finish their piece after claims.

For this challenge, crossovers are not allowed.

Can we use pictures of the actors in other roles?

I'm curious about this too.

[identity profile] livelikejack.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
To add to this: can footage of actors in other roles be used as long as we mean it to be part of their Inception character?

[identity profile] birddi.livejournal.com 2011-01-11 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Hello, when an art work is completed do we email it to you, provide a hosting link, or make a post in February? Sorry for the question... ^^;;

[identity profile] angleico315678.livejournal.com 2011-01-11 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
Question: If we don't claim to pick our wanted piece of art fast enough, do we get left out or do we get assigned a piece of art?

Also, I'm kinda new to the whole Big Bang concept and I don't exactly know how to make a thumbnail preview that links to the full picture...tips?

Oh and BTW, love the concept though. Thanks for coming up with it!

Just looking for a little specificity

[identity profile] j_gabrielle.livejournal.com 2011-01-11 09:17 am (UTC)(link)
Just wanna get it straight, it's:

1)sign up and view art submissions on feb 12

2)claim art only on feb 13?

I'm really looking forward to joing but I'm still abit clueless about some things... Like First Author, Second Author? What's that? Sorry bout this...

Re: Just looking for a little specificity

[identity profile] chosenfire28.livejournal.com 2011-01-12 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
The last day to sign up as an artist is Feb 12th, and art is due Feb 13th (so its a better to sign up sooner rather than later).

The First and Second Author check ins are for the authors to check in about the progress of their story so we the mods can see how they are doing and help them any way we can, its also an opportunity for them to vent.

Re: Just looking for a little specificity

[identity profile] j_gabrielle.livejournal.com 2011-01-12 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
Aha... So I see. I'm looking to be an author though. Can't make art to save my life.

So we'll check in twice with you guys? Like post it here? Does the fic have to be completed by then? Or something along the lines of WIP would be ok?

[identity profile] ravyn-ashling.livejournal.com 2011-01-12 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
this is such a fantastic idea! brb signing up like the wind. <33333

[identity profile] distracterisey.livejournal.com 2011-01-13 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
Hi! Sorry if this is wildly obvious but as stated in the guidelines, crossovers aren't accepted but are AUs accepted? Just wanting to be clear because I've noticed it being discussed on the interwebs as potential art submissions for this. =) Cheers!

[identity profile] fairielore.livejournal.com 2011-02-20 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Are crossovers still out if the readers didn't need to know anything from the other cannon for it to be enjoyed? The whole 'This may feature any pairing (or no pairing) so long as it includes at least one character from Inception' confuses me a bit.

[identity profile] sophiaazombie.livejournal.com 2011-01-15 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
Signed up just to be in on this x)

Can't wait! <3

[identity profile] keelain.livejournal.com 2011-01-15 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
how do I submit OTL

[identity profile] keelain.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
oh um sorry >_<;; it's this, nothing important haha (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=otl)

I... nevermind really. I wanted to ask how to submit the art once we're done but someone already told me it's not time yet? and I've decided that I'm not done.

Digital manips

[identity profile] cunning-croft.livejournal.com 2011-01-16 11:26 am (UTC)(link)
What counts as a digital manip?

Only pictures like this (http://pics.livejournal.com/cunning_croft/pic/0002p3w0), or are photo collages like this (http://pics.livejournal.com/cunning_croft/pic/00025wrz) allowed?

Kinda confused on the art beta

[identity profile] johanirae.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
Just wondering, what would the art beta look out for? General artistic stuff like proportions or shading? Or issues like whether that art can inspire a fic and such.

Also, you mentioned art drafts... Does this mean the first submission for art is WIP drawings? Or completed pieces?

[identity profile] ruins-of-sodom.livejournal.com 2011-01-19 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
Hi, just wanted to confirm if this is the right e-mail to submit my art to:
ireversebang@gmail.com

Thanks!

[identity profile] johanirae.livejournal.com 2011-01-21 11:13 am (UTC)(link)
Hiya sorry to bother, but I have a art draft, thing is, it is by most technicality two pictures, you know, like two frames of a comic... could that be okay as one single prompt?

[identity profile] paperflower86.livejournal.com 2011-01-24 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
So I was wondering, would a short comic be okay for a prompt? It's only five little panels without dialog...or would that count as more than two pics?

[identity profile] ruins-of-sodom.livejournal.com 2011-03-12 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi again, totally sorry if this has been addressed before. My author's already claimed me and we're already in touch so I'd like to know what the rules are about the actual art. Can I post it up on another website now, should I wait until my author is done with her piece or is posting it to another website (with a link back here, and an eventual link to the story once complete) at all against the rules? Thanks!
